Michael obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Advertising & Public Relations in 1972 from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. He began his professional career in retail management for one of the nation's largest retail chains, working in Provo and Phoenix, Arizona before returning to settle in Salt Lake City.
Working with Big Sky Advertising, Michael traveled throughout the Western and Midwestern states selling advertising for travel publications, road maps, and campground directories. This hands-on experience built deep insight into commercial advertising distribution, publication budgets, and print deadlines.
Michael set up shop in downtown Salt Lake City and founded Mountain West Advertising and Publishing, Inc. The company's premier venture was selling advertising and managing Stake Directories for the LDS Church, growing from six stake directories into a wide network. In addition, Michael created the Local Traveler's Guide, a tourist publication distributed free of charge through Salt Lake hotels, visitor centers, and advertiser locations.
In 1982, a dedicated typesetter was purchased to perform in-house typography and page layout. By 1984, the first printing press and bindery equipment were installed. Mountain West expanded into a full commercial printing facility, producing its own proprietary publications alongside work for external corporate clients—giving Michael deep technical mastery of every pressroom operation.
In 1989, Michael joined Liberty Press, the largest commercial web printer in Utah. For ten years, he managed high-volume commercial web printing for major magazines, newspaper tabloids, and retail catalogs. Concurrently, he maintained Mountain West Printing to continue servicing his established commercial sheet-fed print clients.
Bringing together over 45 years of typesetting, sheet-fed, offset, web, and digital printing expertise, Michael founded his namesake brokerage, Mike Bailey Printing. Today, we service diverse commercial businesses, educational institutions, government organizations, and private clients—managing everything from multi-thousand-page catalogs and books to vehicle graphics, corporate apparel, and discount wedding invitations.
